Swedish poplar: a renewable resource

For Tres Estrellas, learning from nature is a priority, understanding its principles and needs in order to keep it healthy and stable. More than 90 percent of Tres Estrellas matches and matchboxes are made from renewable materials.

An astonishing 70% of Sweden's land area is covered by deciduous forests. Aspen trees grow there, along with other trees, and the new growth of Swedish aspen is much greater than consumption. All Three Star matches are produced in Sweden and are made from locally sourced aspen wood. Around 370,000 matches are produced from a single log, which an average consumer would use up in approximately 1,000 years.

Two trees for one tree

For every tree felled in Sweden, at least two new ones are planted. Forest stocks have doubled in less than 100 years, making Swedish forests a sustainable and renewable resource. Processing trees and using wood also helps to further preserve the carbon they have stored while growing, as trees, if left to die and decay, release the stored carbon back into nature.

Poplar is a natural part of Swedish deciduous forests, along with other trees, and the regrowth of Swedish poplar is much greater than consumption.

To further reduce its carbon footprint, as many goods as possible are transported by rail. Through innovation, education, regeneration, and leadership, Tres Estrellas is deeply rooted and connected to its heritage, while paving the way toward the bright future we believe in. It is simply the unmatched nature.
